Do unto robots, as you would have them do unto you
Like many, I’m fascinated by the pace of development in human-like robotics. What really struck me about this clip is the interaction and 'body' language of both protagonists.
The robot pushes the trash towards the human, and the human turns his back on the robot and walks away while it is talking. Subtle, but significant as a hint of future human-machine dynamics.
Whilst it may be true that humanity is consciously or unconsciously trying to reinvent a new form of slavery through technology, we must also understand the importance of respect and collaboration rather than dominance or patronage; with ANY other entity.
We might need to do a little more thinking on this if we want to accelerate along a roadmap that produces a GAI with the potential to rationally strategize, as well, or better than our species.
When we currently develop AI strategies and ethical development frameworks, most of the focus is about 'controlling' AI, not recognising and acknowledging that historical precedents are well established and fairly obvious about the reality of human opportunism.
We usually hope our children will become a better version of ourselves, and we therefore earnestly try to train them in ways that correct some of our known faults... yet they still learn much of their vocal sounds, culture, philosophy, habits, and more from the unspoken reality of their uncontrolled environment.
I'm not meaning to infer a dystopian future, but rather remind us all that if we build a self-learning reasoning, anthropomorphic entity, it cannot but also "see all evil, hear all evil," and most probably, copy all evil from the 'human condition.'
I hope we can all become a better contributor to Life and goodness through the thoughtful and appropriate use of technology to compliment our lives.
Although, I can’t help believing that we may soon have a rather uncomfortable mirror of who we really are, not who we think we are.
